Branches Christian Fellowship Wardle and the surrounding area

Why have a page about Wardle?
Wardle is where the Branches Christian Fellowship began and still meets on a Sunday (see our History page for more information), so it helps to get a fuller picture of us, if you see the area we live in.
The village and surrounding area is where our outreach is most concentrated and where our vision begins. Not all our members live in Wardle itself, but are within a few miles.

Where is Wardle?
Wardle is in the Pennines; it's about 4 miles north of Rochdale and 20 miles north of Manchester, England. The village of Littleborough is about 4 miles east. (see our Maps page for the exact location).
We have good relationships with lots of churches in Rochdale and Littleborough and sometimes work together with them. Pastors from churches of various Christian denominations speak at the fellowship on a regular basis.

What is it like?
Wardle has a population of about 9,000 with about 1,800 under 16s and 1,400 over 60s.
Wardle village centre has a church (which is being made into flats), a chapel, two pubs, a Post Office and Gift shop, a Chinese Chippy, a Newsagents, a Bakery and Off Licence and a Dentist.
There is a small junior school in the village centre and along Birch Road (the eastern entrance to the village) is Wardle High School. Birch Hill hospital is opposite the school and Birch View Estate is next to it.
Housing in Wardle is very mixed, there are mainly small stone cottages along the main road of the village. Around the perimeter are modern housing estates. Along Wardle Road (the western entrance to the village) there are mainly detached houses, and at the bottom are the Great Howarth flats and pre-fab bungalows.
We are blessed to be surrounded by beautiful moorland scenery and at the top of the village there is a man made reservoir called Watergrove, which was created when a village of the same name was flooded.
If you would like to know more about Wardle Village itself a web site called Wardle 2000 has more information on it.
n.b. Although we know the lady who upkeeps Wardle 2000 we have no input into the site, so any questions or comments about it should be passed to her via the site.
